review 1: Lots of people have motive to kill randy egomaniac Godfrey, who has come to visit his hometown as a best-selling author. When someone does him in, a former high school classmate is drawn. widower Charlie Harris works in the rare books section of the college library where Godfrey has just donated his papers, and Charlie's undergrad boarder is revealed as Godfrey's son. Good pacing, nicely drawn characters (good and bad), and I LOVE the Maine coon cat Charlie owns. I love Maine coons.
review 2: I have read one of the later books in this series already and since I enjoyed it I decided to give the first one a try. I was not disappointed. Although the situation (famous author returns to his home town and is murdered) isn't completely new it was still well-handled in... more this book. The characters and some of their relationships are interesting/intriguing and the cat "Diesel" is an off-beat character. There are plenty of suspects to choose from and you may not select the right one (I didn't). All in all a good mystery. less
