review 1: I really enjoyed James' installment of the Cat in the Stacks mystery. She pays homage to all the old teen series, from Nancy Drew to Trixie Beldon, Nurse Cherry Ames, and the Bobbsey Twins. I loved, loved, loved the invented "Veronica Thane" mystery "The Mystery at Spellwood Mansion," supposedly the main character's aunt's favorite mystery. I enjoyed James' actual mystery too....having an older author come to a library event, motivated by money, having fallen on hard times, only to find a related fan and publicist killed. It's all lighthearted fun and quite endearing.
review 2: I don't know what there is about this series that makes me so eager to read each installment but I think it is because I love Diesel the Maine Coon Cat who features in the story. It is... more another good mystery for Charlie Harris to solve. It centers around the old time mystery series like the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. These books were my introduction to mysteries and I spent many, many hours with my nose in them. It kept me guessing until the end and that is what I am looking for in a good mystery. less
