review 1: A fun read with humans spread across the solar system. The inhabitants of a city-state constructed inside an asteroid struggle through a crisis. The solar system is organized along political and economic lines associated with one's position in the gravity well. The story also touches on the spontaneous emergence of sentience in computer systems, crime syndicates and good old fashioned human bigotry. Probably a good read for teenagers
review 2: Totally awesome. I mean, I could see some flaws while I was reading - it was never satisfactorily explained why they were dependent on ice deliveries instead of using a closed system with nanotech recycling, a crucial part of the denouement was very convenient, and some of the dialogue is wooden - but I couldn't bring
... moremyself to care. The characters are great, the asteroid colony as a setting is really vivid and unusual, and I *love* engineering under difficult circumstances as a plot element. I loved the glimpses of what was going on back on Earth, and the solar system politics, and how she treated the transhumanist elements. The AI even sold me on the idea that the Singularity could be interesting, and I usually hate singularities. Highly recommended. less

Met the sci-fi dystopian void. It's worth it for the gender neutral pronouns.

Hard science-fiction at its best.
