review 1: Urban fantasy became a worn-out and tired mish-mash of old horror tropes and soft porn in the last decade or so, moving quite far from its noir roots. This novel is a breath of fresh air. Very tightly written, with an excellent command of both language and style, Brennan's first novel is at absurdly high level of quality, easily equal to early Laurell Hamilton and some of the best works by Jim Butcher.

Loved it! New take on vampires, like the kitsune angle. Recommend for ya as well.

While M.L Brennan's writing was great the book as a whole done nothing for me.
