...and the Beast
review 1: I enjoyed book2 of the …and the Beast series and am torn if I’m happy the series is discontinued or not. I found book one cumbersome and haven’t yet gone back to finish it. This one gives a brief synopsis of the series itself before going on with this short story, which I had no problems delving right into. Kisri the untamable is the High Lords favorite cousin and though desired by many is also the unattainable as she has no intention of being bound to one of her many greedy suitors. So what’s a girl to do – I know go to war under an illusion char that ill convinces everyone she is a man while she searches for her one male relative that can help her. I wonder if anyone ever told them were-lion play would make Kisri & Ennon fall for each ot... moreher.
review 2: Aside from smexy good times, I can't really say there was much going on in this story.Kisri, weary of men only trying to claim her because of what it would mean for their royal status, disguises herself with a charm as a soldier among Ennon's army. As soon as she is discovered, Ennon knows that duty obligates him to return Kisri, a Royal lioness and untouched virgin, to her cousin, the High Lord. But Kisri has other plans... ones which would have Ennon teaching her how to sate her sexual desires. Ennon is up to the task, but can he tame Kisri's need and her heart, as well as his own?Having not yet read a story with shifter Lions before, I was interested in giving this one a try. Turns out that there was not much of a difference between wolves, which I have read many stories about, and lions. I was kind of disappointed that more background wasn't given to distinguish them, make them unique among other types of two-natured, but I guess this story was more about the insta-love/romance between Ennon and Kisri. The story was pretty much a PWP fantasy/erotic tale. It was a quick read without much build up in sexual tension or relationship development. The characters had typical stubborn yet coy traits, and did the whole denial of feelings dance until they reached their HEA.There were a few times that I didn't think the dialogue or the characters' logic made a lot of sense, and the misunderstanding of feelings was so predictable that it was rather lackluster.Though I liked the first book in the short story series better, I'd still say Kisri was a fun, mindless read. Great for a spark of safe yet erotic entertainment in between heavy novel reading. less
