review 1: I’m falling more and more in love with this series! This short Novella was a great addition to the Bloodhounds series. I don’t recommend you start with this book though. There isn’t much if any world building or explanations for certain things. The story is more focused on Merrick and Paralee and their new mated relationship.Merrick isn't my favorite bloodhound, I think Archer is still my favorite, but I did like him a lot. Unlike the others, Merrick is older, one of the first to be made by the Bloodhounds Guild. He's spent many many years, decades even, as a bloodhound, so of course it's a huge surprise to him to wake up and suddenly find himself mated. But he handles it well, for a sex crazed bloodhound that is. ;) I felt so bad for him, thinking that he was unwant... moreed and accepting it. Made me wanna give him a big ol' hug! And Paralee, man I loved her but if I were her and found myself mated to a man like Merrick, I wouldn't be pushing him away. I'd be holding on tight and never letting go. She made me mad with the doubts she gave him but she made up for it in the end. There wasn't much action in this one, a little at the beginning and at the end. It was mostly just them two coming together and well staying together for the new moon. But the action that was there was very exciting. I love a book that has me on the edge of my seat and this one definitely did that.I'd love to see this couple show up in one of the next books so I can have a little update on them, but we'll see. I give this book 4 Stars and I definitely look forward to continuing the series with Hunter's Prey. I recommend this whole series, not just this book, to all paranormal romance, steampunk and western romance lovers. It's got all the elements I look for in my reading material and more. Now, go. Buy and enjoy!!!
review 2: Merrick's Destiny is a short novella released as part of All Romance e-Books 18 Perfect Strangers promotion. I will admit I had a brain cramp and completely forgot it was coming out until the email from ARE came in my inbox. I bought it immediately, and read it nonstop. This is story 2.5 in the series, but it can easily be read as a stand alone, or even an introduction to the series. I loved it from start to finish. Merrick is gruff, and I think the cover is a great representation of him. I know some readers were put off by it, but I wasn't. Bloodhounds are rough, often uncivilized, barely controlled and yes, sexy, but they can't all be pretty boys. Merrick and Paralee are one of my favorite couples. I'll be reading their story over and over. He's rough, protective and old school. She's independent, tough, smart and certainly not thinking of mating with anyone, let alone a Bloodhound. The story is Western Steampunk, complete with gadgets, flying machines, magic, and action. It's a fast paced story with heart. Fans of Moira Rogers will love it, and if you haven't read the series or anything by the author, grab this as an introduction. less
