review 1: I never thought about reading books about haunted houses before. I don’t think I would go looking for one anyway. But as a Avid Scooby-Do watcher in my younger years, why not, I say? While I was thinking it was more like The Amityville Horror, this book was the complete opposite! It was a fun read that captured my attention much more than I thought it would!I read another Molly Harper book last year, How to Run with a Naked Werewolf, and I was just as perplexed about the subject matter as with this book. But the way the author has written this story, it shows me that the old adage “never judge a book by its cover” is definitely in order here. The book is a lighthearted read with fun characters that you want to get to know. They seem like old friends that you feel comf... moreortable spending a few afternoons with. The book is well written and the plot was unique and well developed too. Plus it is a Pocket Book so you can easily stick this into your purse and read it anywhere! I love that book size still! I always have a few stashed in my bag!You know you need to bookmark this one and place it on your wish list or pre-order it. Easy to read and it will capture your interest. I am putting Molly Harper on my own watch list so I can keep an eye out for all of her new releases. She takes to not so ordinary, gives it a cool twist and offers you a refreshing read.I was given a book in exchange for an honest review - full review on twoclassychics.com
review 2: Nina is a landscape architect that scores a huge job on a private island, which is great since her life is basically in the tubes. She thinks that landing this and pulling off an amazing result will not only boost her business and income, but her reputation among elite clientele. The locale though? A mansion rumored to be haunted, and right from her first-sight of the balcony, she knows that the rumors are nothing if not true. Right away, Nina and her employer for the job, Deacon feel the telltale pull toward one another, but are hesitant due to their work status. Throw into the mix a gorgeous organizing/cleaning business owner, Cindy along with Deacon's best friend and architect, Jake, the quartet get along quite well together...until the spirits are no longer content to simply be occasionally seen and felt from a distance. They insist on making their presence known.I really enjoyed the the murder mystery of the original owner of the mansion, Catherine. The entire time I was interested in whether or not her husband, Gerald was the pesky culprit in her death or if a potential lover had done the dirty deed. The manifestations of the spirits was nice, too - it gave some variety and gave the guests real reasons to be scared!Nina was a fun character and I loved the chemistry between her and Deacon. They both were completely adorable nerds that belonged together. Every time I read a Molly Harper book I think to myself that I need to read more from her - I need to actually do it! Her writing is very enjoyable!Thank you to NetGalley for providing this ARC. less
