review 1: Oh dear where do I begin with this one? This book was poorly written, so poorly in fact I would wince when reading certain passages. Every sentence was stiff, rigid, and the dialogue was terrible. Ex. "Kaeleigh could hear Finn irritated as well.." The phrase "There was fire in his eyes" was sorely over used and "Kaeleigh looked at his expression, realizing he was trying to figure Chel out" was a common occurrence. A character would look at another character's face or expression and figure out what the other was thinking in the same glance. I wanted to take a red pen and edit this entire book. The idea behind it is such a great, interesting concept but the writing fell flat. "Um...uh...it's probably nothing," Kaeleigh stammered, remembering Chel was even more jumpy than she... more was and trying to keep her friend calm." "Then she added out of curiosity after a quick revelation..." "He saw the concern in her eyes and fought against it."When I first started reading I thought it might just be the author's style of writing and it would take me a while to settle into it. Unfortunately as the book progressed the reading didn't get any easier, and I had to push myself to finish the book. The characters were weak, their individual personalities almost nonexistent. All of them had secrets they were hiding from Kaeleigh, they all loved her and sought to protect her, and they all have a part to play in the prophesy. The only difference between them was this: Chel was bubbly and will play the classic supporting best friend role, Daegan is quiet and brooding and shows no emotion (despite him having a stone cold mask, Kaeleigh manages to read his expression with little difficultly throughout the book)and will play her love interest, and Finn has a dark past but will be Kaeleigh's friend and supporter no matter what (but he does have a crush on her which will help imploy the love triangle between Daegan, Kaeleigh, and himself later on in the series) I have met all of these characters before in previous books I have read, only with different names. There was nothing about any character that made me love them or want to know more about them. On a side note the author seemed obsessed with dominance and alpha displays. Anytime any of the characters disagreed they would make eye contact and neither would look away to show that they were submitting. It was strange and misplaced in this story and was weird anytime it happened (which was often). This book could have been so much more than what it was and I was extremely disappointed after finishing. I will not be reading the second book in this series. 2 out of 5 stars.
review 2: *Please excuse my less than awesome review, I will be back to improve it*I was asked to give an honest review for this book. In my short little review I will tell you that I really did enjoy this story. There was so much wrapped up in it. You will find action, fantasy, adventure, some romance, mystery and even some humor. The one big problem I found with it was there was so much explaining and detail. Some is good but this sometimes was a little overkill. It seemed to slow the story down for me at times. Now with Kaeleigh, I am not 100% with her character. Sometimes I just wanted to tell to "take a breath honey your trying to hard." Maybe that was just me. Other than that little thing,I liked her. And ol' intense Daegan, sigh I liked him a lot. As usual. He seemed so strong and sure but if you noticed you would see some vulnerability peeking out and it just made me all soft lol. I believe there is more to him than meets the eye. And well Finn, wow! That was a total surprise for me. I liked the story and the characters and am ready to read the next book. I mean come on, major cliff hanger!! less
