review 1: Show this novel to anyone who ever claims that genre fiction has reached its limits and has nothing new to offer; "The Girl With All the Gifts" plays on dystopian/horror cliches and gives them an entirely new, disturbing twist. I liked the beginning much more than the middle part - but I have a thing for cold immaculate labs, unethical experiments, relations between experimenter and their subject, and so on. The ending brought all subplots together neatly and left me with a satisfying feeling that everything made sense in the book. And last, but not least - the main culprit made me shudder with disgust and fear. My skin is still crawling a little when I think about this story, which is clearly a good sign in this case. review 2: To be honest, I only found this ... morebecause I'd been intending to read 'the girl who owned a city' for a while. I then ended up reading 'the girl with a dragon tattoo'. And thought I'd go for a jackpot with 'the girl with all the gifts'. So by accident I found one of the best books I've ever read. Strong characterisation, original story and zombies. Every paragraph has had great care taken, it's a rare book where everything that happens is 'right'. One of those books I've been thinking about since I finished it and suspect I shall continue to do so. less
