review 1: Finished this late last night. Should really be a 3.5 as I did really enjoy it. Reminded me a bit of the Harry Dresden series, but if anything more light hearted. Built to a great climax but is more confusing than Jim Butcher's writing which again does great build up to the finish and which you want to keep reading until the end no matter the time. Very silly with lots of undead roaming around NYC unnoticed by the living but lots of fun detail. Look forward to the next one.
review 2: I was excited to read this book because Seanan McGuire (who wrote Feed) and Cory Doctorow had blurbed it, and I enjoy what they write, and because the Strand had it propped up as some employee's recommendation, and it was compared to Buffy, and even if I was a little skeptical of t... morehe writing, I gave it a chance. In fact, I gave the whole book a chance - I made myself finish the darn thing. Even if I hadn't had high-ish expectations, I would've been disappointed. It's just chick lit with bad mythology. less
