review 1: Just could not get into this story of a "tween" musical phenom who flopped in the finale of a reality show hiding out in a small town in New Jersey and friending the totally non-musical Cecilia who's looking for...her music. I think that sums up the problem for me. The plot didn't resonate for me, the characters were weak, and the Elvis connection totally fell flat-not what I imagine the typical 11 year going crazy for.
review 2: The concept of this book was intriguing... famous singer makes a mistake onstage and decides to hideout in New Jersey. I loved how central music was to the plot, as well as the inclusion of folklore. I did feel like so much more could have been done with the ending. It was hinted that Elvis was being forced into being a singer by his
... more father, but nothing was done with that. It seems as though Elvis was more interested in making his own choices than in being famous, but the ending seemingly contradicts that. I think I would have liked this more if it ended with Elvis deciding to stay in New Jersey and be Aaron. Also, I thought the Epilogue chapter was an unnecessary inclusion. less

This was a fun easy read. It made me laugh to see how well people can keep a secret.

It was a short, fun read. Pretty good! I liked the poetic-ness of the trees.

Not bad, but not great either. Story felt forced and not quite complete.

Great book and I like how it was about a star and regular people.
