review 1: Posted on Les Romantiques - Le forum du siteReviewed by RinouReview Copy from the PublisherI had only read from Nancy Bush one novella in the anthology Sinister. Located for one part in Martinique and the other in California, I’ll find you is a promising romantic suspense that left me unsatisfied. One year after the car accident that killed her husband and her son, Callie Cantrell decides to go and get her strength back in Martinique, where she had gone for her honeymoon. She makes friends with a young boy, and finds herself facing West Laughlin, who came here searching for his lost nephew, and who accuses her to be another woman. Little by little she’ll discover strange hidden links between her late husband and said woman.I thought Callie was a delicate but quite resol... moreute heroine, who finds during the story a reason to toughen up emotionally. I liked how she tries to reason herself when she feels she clings to much to young Tucker, even if she’s realistic enough to realize it’s probably too late. West, as a good cop hero, tries at the beginning to pose as a jaded tough guy, when we discover quite early that he’s not at all. He even falls quickly for the heroine, even though she annoys him by hiding some truths. I just thought that if they give in to their attraction quite realistically, their decision takings for the future come too fast.On the side of the secondary characters, we’re in for a treat! Between the heroes’ families and circles, and the bad guy and his handmaiden, there are a lot of names and links to remember. And to complicate all this a bit more, we go inside the thoughts of quite everybody at one point or another. You mustn’t put down the book for too long at risk of not knowing anymore who is who or did what.I must say the novel begins in a very catchy way, and I was dying to know the rest. But after some chapters the rhythm became very slow, the subplots seemed not to progress anymore, and I lost this desire to turn the pages at full speed. Fortunately in the last chapters there’s a good acceleration and a satisfying final suspense, even if I wasn’t surprised by the final twist because I was feeling something was fishy from some time. And the way the plots finally link to each other in the end shows a real talent from the author. To conclude this is a romantic suspense full of potentials but in which a too slack middle had me lost my attention. Too bad because it begins and finishes quite well.
review 2: I'll Find You is a solid suspense story with enough romance to please fans of both genres. The writing is strong with complex characters with an even more complex story line. The story starts out with the car crash that immediately pulling me into the story. I love the depth of the characters good and bad guys. The interaction between the characters as well as seeing their thoughts is especially well done. As I read it felt like peeling back the layers of onion with the characters revealing a little more with each interaction.Along with the character complexity, there were unexpected events and revelations that kept me wanting find out how it all would fit together. Then the solution fits together in such a way that there are no loose ends. Nancy Bush has given us a page-turning wonderful read. A copy was provided by NetGalley for an honest review. less
