review 1: The adventures continue. Cee cee and Max are destined to be together. As much as things tear them apart, then are able to mend the relationship, much like Max can mend his body when he needs to. These two each have a past that impacts their current lives and those around them. While different situations, the past comes back to haunt each of them in their own lives and in their relationship. Even though Max is a hardass in business dealings, he proves to have a sensitive heart especially where Cee Cee is concerned. She is also a hardass, but her sensitivity where Max is concerned, exposes her softer side. Max's past and Cee Cee's past will, I'm sure, come into even more play in the books to come.
review 2: This is the second installment in a series about t... morehe shapeshifter Max and his lady cop love, Charlotte. The fact that Max turns into a vicious wolf doesn't seem to bother Charlotte and is only one of the reasons that Max loves this prickly lady. In the first book, Charlotte couldn't make up her mind if she was going to commit all the way to Max or not. While this was annoying, it is understandable. Charlotte is a conscientious policewoman, sworn to uphold law and justice. Max is a gangster. In addition, he adores the man responsible for her father's death. These problems create enough obstacles that Max and Charlotte's love story cannot be completed in just one book. Max is quintessentially sexy and vulnerable all at the same time. No reader reads Gideon's work here and doesn't fall a little bit in love with Max. Charlotte is the tough one. She has trust issues and there are solid reasons for that----a past with a violent, abusive episode that has left her wounded. But Max was the one who rescued her from that years ago and she'll never forget that. He somehow reaches her soul and her heart and this series is the story of how his love is healing her even though she resists along the way. The second book was better than the first because Charlotte is beginning to thaw in this one and she finally realizes that she's been taking more than she's been giving with Max and she takes steps to remedy the situation. This doesn't happen a moment too soon. For Max has his own issues that need healing and only Charlotte can do that. In the nick of time, she pulls through for him, choosing to put Max first even though it requires compromising the job that she loves.I considered putting this series aside after the first book. But it was the belief that Max wasn't really a bad guy that made me keep reading. This second book continues along that vein. Max is taking action to turn the illegal businesses he inherited (from the now dead mob boss he once served) into legitimate enterprises on the right side of the law. If Max stays a gangster it will ruin the story for me. But I can't imagine that's how this series will end. less
