review 1: *won via Goodreads giveaway*This novel didn't fulfill my expectations at all. With a premise that revolves around the girlfriend and the boyfriend's best friend, you'd think there'd be plenty of opportunities for scenes more interesting than catching someone in a towel. Yet the boyfriend himself is, for the most part, a character only referenced in dialogue. And by the second chapter, anyway - spoiler alert - they're divorced, rendering the lengthy will-they-won't-they, our-love-is-so-forbidden conflict between Liam and Victoria all the more insipid.Liam is the typical Romance Hero (Secretly Vulnerable And Kind To Baby Animals) Bad-Boy Protagonist, and Victoria is the typical overworked career lady who apparently needs to catch a break in the form of Multiple Orgasms. It's... more all a bit typical, with sex scenes that are typically Mills & Boon (i.e. anodyne). It could have been a more interesting character study had Victoria been happily married to Oliver, instead of turning him into the pantomime bad guy (not of the same calibre as Bad-Boy Studface, apparently). But I don't know why I'm asking for character studies from a M&B novel, so there goes that.On the plus side, the descriptions of Victoria's job as a graphic designer were actually quite interesting. I would probably have liked this book more if it were called 'Graphic Design and the Gals Who Love It'.
review 2: I liked this book but I didn't love it, I would have loved more back story, how close she was with Oliver and how much she was pleasing him rather than loving him like she should have done. I'd also have liked to see the meeting between Victoria and Liam, and see really how he swept her off of her feet. The reason I think this book didn't live up to expectations is the author was too busy trying to prove that they got together no matter what path she chose, rather than making a longer, more involving story. As I said at the beginning, I liked this story, who wouldn't, a sexy man ends up with a vivacious, self assured woman and they fall madly in love, but I didn't love it. less
