review 1: Manic Pixie Dream Girl Margie wanders through life in her home-sewn sundresses with her left ovary twinging at the sight of pitiable animals and people. She is simultaneously naive and wise beyond her years for an 18 year old, and apparently eschews all forms of modern technology. Instead, she writes letters--yes, the kind sent through the USPS--to communicate with her bourbon-addled, distant father. Her creepy relationship with her much older Latin professor (Daddy issues, anyone?) leads to her involvement in a PETA-like animal rights group where the motley crew of members take on the names of their favorite animals. While I like a little quirkiness in my fiction, there was just WAY too much of it here to keep me reading; I feel like I need the novel equivalent of a palat... moree cleanser.
review 2: Sometimes one just needs a comforting, loving read. Lovebird came along just the right moment for me. Usually flowery descriptions and romance are not of interest, but, this week, Margie's search for love, care of the earth, ability to know where she belonged, was just the right touch for me. If you need an escape from your world and want to be surrounded by characters who know how to care for one another, spend a few days with The Lovebird. less

The writing was pretty good, but the story did not hold my interest. Gave up and did not finish.

A great literary piece by a debut author. Loved the use of adjectives.

beautifully written, drags at times, but comes together in the end.
