review 1: Sources abound in which an aspiring writer may find abundant advice; but this book is unique in that it is explicitly by and for women writers, and in that its advice pertains to every aspect of writing, including financial matters. Its encouragement is genuine, yet it is also eminently practical. Also it is easy to read in spurts as one reads other things. It could use a good copy editor, and the author inserts herself a little too much, but otherwise I highly recommend it.
review 2: Picked this up on a whim at a bookstore in Bar Harbor (I always find the best books at Sherman's!) and I LOVE it. I would recommend this to any and every aspiring author. It's hugely gratifying to find that Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, and a host of other famous women authors al... morel struggled with getting published, negative feedback and reviews, self-doubts about their talent, and finding time to write. Thank you Nava Atlas for this wonderful addition to the pantheon of writing advice books - the huge amount of research and care that went into crafting this book is apparent and the generous helping of direct quotes from the writers' themselves is magnificent. The book is also beautifuly laid out - generously illustrated with photos of the authors this book feels more like reading a journal than an "advice" book. Find a comfy chair, grab a throw blanket and a cup of tea, and lose yourself in this book! less
