review 1: i read this cover to cover and didn't care enough about the ideas in here to try anything. part of that was because i wasn't particularly interested in the recipes. the other part was that i thought the recipes were kind of poorly written. a good cookbook will tell you not only how long to cook things, but also what you should be looking for to determine when to move on to the next step. even if there aren't pictures of every dish, one should be able to figure out what the finished dish would look like just from reading the recipe. these ones aren't complete enough to really give the reader a sense of what to expect--which makes me less inclined to want to try them.
review 2: I made the potato, cheese, and green chili soup. It was delicious. Perfect comfor
... moret food. The friend who joined me for lunch that cold day loved it and asked for the recipe. The variety of tastes represented in these recipes is quite large so there will be something to appeal to everyone. I've earmarked the broccoli, apple and peanut soup, as well as the curried lentil, potato and curry soup. As usual, I'm avoiding the recipes that require a food processor*. I noticed a handful of recipes use a quarter cup of white wine or half a cup of red wine. I'd only attempt those if I was cooking for a dinner party so my guests could finish off the contents, otherwise it's a waste to buy and open a bottle. As for visuals, the layout is clean and pleasing to the eye, and there are color photos in the center. The recipes are organized according to season. To give you a better idea of what else is included, here's a small sampling: kale, yellow squash and sweet potato stew; Moroccan-style vegetable stew; leek and mushroom bisque; Creole eggplant soup; gingery miso-spinach soup; chilled cantaloupe soup; zesty green gazpacho; potage polenta; almond-brussels sprouts soup (my favorite foods but alas requires a food processor!); swiss chard stew; creamy parsnip vegetable soup; tomato-mango coconut cooler. *I have nothing against them. I am just sadly accident-prone.. less

The really simple soups are good, but most of the recipes in this book won't cut it in my house.

Few pictures and frankly boring to read. Not to my taste.

Nice, a lot could be adapted for crock pot.
