review 1: My favorite part about this series is that N.D. Wilson has steeped the story in alternate history, though not as heavily in this book. We encounter characters more than strange artifacts in The Drowned Vault; John Smith, and Gilgamesh to name a couple. While I was getting Harry Potter vibes at the beginning, and Wilson has a habit of using five words when three will do, the story is a fun swashbuckler I would recommend to any adolescent looking for some new reading material.
review 2: I'm really glad I decided to read the second book. It was (in my opinion) better than the first. The action was exciting and the plot was more dynamic. You learn more about the villian, but I still didn't like him that well. Gilgamesh though, I liked. He was clear with why he did
... morewat he did. The secondary characters come back infull, the same as ever. It's nice to have consistancy in characters. New characters were added that were just as good and lovable as the originals. The author has a way of making the characters feel real and relatable. Having Cyrus learn about the Smith family was really interesting and I loved how the author tied it all together in the story. Very smart and clever (like Phoenix in his coat). This book was all about Cyrus wanting to go and explore and get out in the world to fix his mistakes and him learning that its not all fun and games. He has to learn that nothing works as planned and that you have to know when to take the big risks. Overall I enjoyed the book and can't wait to read the next book. less

So much fun. Hard to say anything substantial without spoilers. Just read it.

Was interesting, but did get a little violent towards the end.
