review 1: I have mixed feeling about this book. The plot was very intriguing and so I read the book. However, It took me a while to actually get into the book, and even then I only kept reading to figure out what happened to quench my curiosity. I liked the characters though, such as Cyrus, Antigone, Nolan, and Rupert. Their interactions were good, and they have their funny moments. The side characters all have a certain charm about them that I like. You get to know all the characters and like them as well. The villian was kind of a let down. They just didn't seem villian-y enough. I really liked Maxi, and I'm dissapointed as to how he was dealt with. He kept things interesting, and was overall probably my favorite character.Nolan was a surprise too. I didn't think I was going to like... more him as much as I did. he really started to grow on me. It just kind of snuck up on me, and all of a sudden I was rooting for him and just generally liked his personality.I also have to commend the author on Cyrus and Antigone's relationship. He's the more 'let's get going, we don't need any preperations, hurry up' and she's the more 'let's take a moment and make a plan, stop being an idiot and help, don't rush into anything' type of person. But they really care about eachother and genuinly like eachother. They're constantly making sure the other is ok, and they keep eachother strong. Their relationship was one of the reasons I keep reading the book. All in all I did enjoy the book, and I'm going to read the second book.
review 2: This is the first book in Wilson's new series, Ashtown Burials. It is non-stop action for those middle-graders who ask for exciting books. Girls will read it too, as the main character, a boy, has an older sister who is very much part of the action, as well. There are nods to classical mythology (those who love Rick Riordan's books will be intrigued) and as you read further on into the series, the Bible books of Daniel and Revelation come to mind. I highly recommend this series, and unlike many series, the third (and final) is the best! less
