review 1: Inconsistent pacing and flat characterisation ruined this book. I felt this could be explained by the author's desire to stay true to actual events, but his notes at the end reveal how much he deviated and took poetic license, without actually improving the story. Sarah and Harry were both irritating and uninteresting, and none of their decisions made any sense. The ghost did bugger all and couching it with Robert Caxton's story promised a much bigger payoff than actually occurred.
review 2: This is a novelisation of the events surrounding paranormal investigator Harry Price's real life investigation of the alleged haunting of Borley Rectory in rural Suffolk, England, narrated by his assistant Sarah Grey. I found this book very enjoyable, but it is very far fr
... moreom the usual kind of ghost story, as although it is indeed very spooky in parts, it is also driven by the sometimes very domineering and manipulative character of Price himself. This results in one not being sure whether anything ghostly is happening or not, which for me added somewhat to the atmosphere of suspense in this story. I am not sure exactly how accurate an account of Price himself, or of his real life investigation at Borley is given in this book, but it does seem to me that a fair amount of dramatic license is employed, so I feel it should be read purely as a work of fiction rather than as a reliable source of historical information about the actual case. Nevertheless I did find this novel to be an enjoyable caper, with plenty of atmosphere and suspense, and one that I am sure I shall read again at some point. less

I enjoyed the book but there was just a couple of that spoiled it for me. Give it a read.
