review 1: I thought this was a good book. I read it in a day. I thought the character development was good of Kate (who is reading Elizabeth's journals) and Elizabeth through her journals. I thought it showed the contradictions of a woman who is a mom and wants to work at a career. I also thought it showed that people are not in control of what goes on in the world. It's also a story about marriages as well. It was interesting.
review 2: Elizabeth dies in a plane crash and leaves all of her journals to her friend Kate, not her husband Dave, who is left to father 3 small children. Kate and her husband Chris and 2 kids spend 7 weeks in the Hamptons, and Kate becomes obsessed with reading the journals from cover to cover, starting when she was in high school. Rumor had
... more it that Elizabeth was going to see a boyfriend in California when she was in the plane crash, and the reading of the journals was to find out where she really was going. Dave is mad that she is reading the journals and not him. Chris is mad that Kate is reading the journals instead of paying attention to her family (which I agree with, by the way). And Kate thinks Elizabeth is a totally different person that she knew when she was alive, which I think is a stretch. The book was just ok, easy to read, not complex, not that many surprises in the journals, as one might have expected. Rather predictable. less
