review 1: Wow. The Bad Kitty books have been popular at my library for a while--especially with kids who have enjoyed other heavily illustrated chapter books like Captain Underpants, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Nate the Great-- and I'm ashamed to say I've only just now read a few. Mistake! They're good. This one has the added benefit of containing one of the clearest explanations of all parts of the US electoral process (for president) that I've ever read. I see it was originally released in summer of 2012--genius timing! A book with massive kid appeal that simultaneously intelligently introduces kids to concepts like Super PACs and caucuses? The only aspect that gives me pause is Kitty's impetus for running for President (of the Neighborhood Cat Club)--a conviction that stray cats th... moreat wander into his neighborhood and want to live there should ideally be thrown into an active volcano. The narrator doesn't necessarily support Kitty's view, and the border analogy might not be clear to most young readers (am I imagining it?), but I'll want to read the book at least one more time before recommending it to any kids. PS--on re-browsing, I see that Kitty belongs to the party of kitties that live on the Right side of the street. Hmm.
review 2: This was a funny story of a cat running for President of the Neighborhood Cat Coalition. Bad Kitty, and children (of course) learn about campaigning, registering and voting, along with terms and rules of becoming the President. If you want to teach your children about Democracy and the way U.S.A elections are run, in a non-treating way. This is a great book to read with them. Fast read too. less
