review 1: That was the second book from this author I read. The first one had been given to me by a friend and had not made such an impression. This one was very cheaply priced and that's the reason why I decided to give it a chance.I did not like it much. I felt that there was too much liberty taken with the historical reality. I did not care much for most of the characters. The hero had been wrong his whole life regarding the true personality of his best friend. The heroine was a vain and selfish chit. Her friend had been cheating her with her previous philandering husband, was abundantly promiscuous and a lying manipulating self-interested ever-unsatisfied person. I rolled my eyes several times over the plot, at inconsistencies or nonsense. That will be my last from this author wh... moreo really does not work for me at all.
review 2: Whisper of Scandal tells the story of Lady Joanna Ware, a society hostess and widow of a philandering adventurer, who on his deathbed left the care of his illegitimate child to his wife and his friend Alexander, Lord Grant. Joanna and Alex travel to the Arctic to claim the child battling each other and everything Mother Nature throws their way only to realize things are much more complicated than they appear.I loved Alex from the moment he threw open the library door in chapter one and Joanna for her class and grace. Alex is an all-out adventurer with a devil-may-care attitude that makes you excited, anticipating what he would do or say next. True he was an ass for judging Joanna based on nothing but how his friend felt about his estranged wife but all that can be forgotten once you reach the last chapter.Joanna, on the other hand, though reserved and may seem a little petty is very kind and generous. I like her passionate nature although I didn’t approve of some of the things she did; she did them out of love.I loved Alex and Joanna’s journey towards Nina and towards each other, the chosen setting for their story and the pull and push of it all. less

Pretty exciting up until the last chapter. Then the chapter was rather sappy.
