review 1: The star rating given reflects my opinion within ‘the official goodreads rating system’.1 star: Didn’t Like it2 stars: It’s Okay3 stars: Liked it4 stars: Really Liked it5 stars: It Was AmazingI don’t really give a rat-fuck that there are some who think I ‘owe’ an explanation for my opinion. Nope, nada, and not sorry about it.Sometimes I may add notes to explain what my opinions are based on, and sometimes I don’t. I do this for me, on my books, in my library and I don’t ‘owe’ any special snowflakes a thing. Fuck off if you don’t like it and stop reading my shit.Particularly given the ‘modifications’ to reader’s personal content going on (and outright censorship), unless particularly motivated I will not comment in detail. It wo... moreuld help if GR was forthcoming in the new ‘appropriate’ and would make a site-wide announcement delineating the new focus from a reader-centric site to one that is now for authors and selling.
review 2: Just...Wow. Love this book. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down. A book hasn't grabbed me by the throat like this in a long while. Loved it all, from start to finish. Wish it didn't end. So happy to see there are two more in the series. On to the review....Micah and Rebecca "Becca", meet in the bar of a restaurant. The accidental meeting tells us two things: first, Madeline is a wallflower that only seems to come alive around Micah, and two... that even though he's human, Micah is every bit the protective, sexy alpha male that makes for a great hero. After an explosive, hot & detailed night together, Becca is the one that walks away, believing that she was only a one-night stand for the sexy ex-special forces man who rocked her world. Two weeks later, we find Micah has done a background check on Becca because she's coming to work for the company he is head of security at. Becca is a zoologist, specializing in big cats, and doesn't understand why a laboratory would want her to work for them, but she accepts all the same.Micah is injured during a chase with a bad guy on the job, and is told he can take part in an experimental DNA injection (Project Predator) or he can be crippled forever. He accepts, not realizing that they were planning to royally screw with his DNA and...in the end...give him the ability to shift into a lion. Enter Becca, who was brought into the lab for just this very reason - to help them handle Micah, who is their first successful experiment.Although I could make a comparison to Dohner's New Species or Leigh's Breeds series, I don't think that's really fair to any of the authors. Austin does justice to the new world that she created and this idea isn't like anything I've read before. Micah wasn't born this way through gene manipulation, he was changed as an adult through injections and surgeries.I can't do an honest review without mentioning the grammatical errors. Sentences missing words, wrong words used (move instead of more, etc.), and other little grammar goblins threatened the smooth flow of the book. It's disappointing, especially in a book published by such a stellar company like Ellora's Cave, but it seems to be a trend that's not going away. Even with the errors, I still loved the hell out of this book, but I felt it necessary to mention it. If you're a grammar nazi, you might hurt yourself banging your head against the wall. *fair warning*Argh, I want to tell everything! The story is that good. I want to shout all the details from the rooftop and spoil the hell out of it, but I won't. I promise. Suffice it to say that Micah is gorgeous, bossy, protective, and amazing. Becca is headstrong, smart, and determined to help Micah get free of the lab. The scenes between them were hot, hot, hot and kept me riveted to the Kindle into the wee hours. I'm hooked now, and can't wait to read the two follow up books to see what happens next. less
