review 1: My best friend got me this book for my birthday, and it is such a delicious treat. I've been a fan of Nikol Lohr for ages, and Literary Knits does not disappoint. There are so many patterns I'm dying to try (Meme Shawl, Jane Erye Shawl, Tess Fingerless Gloves...the list goes on). The instructions are easy to follow and I love the way she treats yarn recommendations, by offering yarn weight and brand, as well as ply and loft, for best results. There are even pictures of the yarn used for each project so you can see how smooth, fuzzy, or nubby the yarn is and gauge your substitutions accordingly. I'll update after I've knit a couple of patterns, but I have no doubt this book will be in my library for years to come.
review 2: My normal requirement for a craft proj... moreect book is at least 5 patterns I want to make - this book?Every single pattern is on my "must have" list - to the point that a great deal of my clothing budget has gone to getting the yarn required to start working my way through this excellent book. Has a great range - women's clothing I frankly covet, men's items that my husband will happily wear (including several I'll make for myself!) and lovely children's pattern that I'm eyeing to make now -before- we have kids, to be put away and waiting!Already have the yarn for the Arwen dress (2 colors actually) as well as the Elizabeth Bennet gorgeous tunic/blouse. Wonderful patterns for the readers in your life - and frankly so goos they'll make those who haven't read the stories yet, dive for them to understand where such lovely items were dreamed up from. Without a doubt, one of the best knitting books I've bought in a long while. less
