review 1: Even though I was only 10% of the way through when I guessed the big twist and it was all very reminiscent of the Green Mile, it is hands down one of the best books I have gotten for free on Amazon, and I plan on looking up more of Hammon's books. She really kept me interested. She caught everything books like these usually miss that make me crazy- like making sure Mac states that he has said that he always sees family resemblances but missed this one, mentioned calling the warden the night before for the extra pass, etc."But what was the point of confusing a hate-monger with the facts?""When there ain't no lovin' voices in your ears, fear comes a' whisperin and first thing you know, you start to listen and believe.""Time flew by, propelled by rocket fuel- and it also cr... moreept by like slogging through knee-deep mud in a swamp. Both at the same time."What a sad ending in so many ways.
review 2: The first few chapters of this book, the set-up, were a little difficult for me to stick with, however I'm glad that I didn't give up on the book. Some of the storylines and outcomes took me by surprise. The issues are relevant for today and provide the reader with a mix of wisdom & insight about choices and consequences. The various characters' endings were not predictable. My mind is still mulling over the stories within the story. less
