review 1: As I read this book I kept wondering what was the point. This was a book filled with layers that needed to be peeled away just as the secrets were revealed, on layer at a time. This is a story of Jess who's grandmother has left her an inheritance what she thinks is the family's summer cottage but could be far more valuable. This is also the story of Margaret a woman who has kept other people's secrets for so long. Margaret is from a different era where it important to masquerade those things that all families want to remain hidden. The problem with bidding secrets is that you are locked in to a certain course of action and ultimately they lock Jess into what seems like an unavoidable path. I felt this book read like one of those old fashioned stories from Margaret'... mores era
review 2: Jess has not been back to the lake house since she was seventeen-- the summer she fell in love with Daniel-- the summer when a tragedy caused her to flee. Now, she is back, and the beautiful Victorian overlooking the lake belongs to her. Will the old house give up its secrets? As Jess sifts through trunks filled with old letters and photographs, she tries to unlock the mysteries of the past, and maybe, just maybe, the secret to her own heart. less

Enjoyed this story. Fast paced. Kept my interest. Ended kind of abruptly though.

I enjoyed reading this book although there were some definite editing problems.
