review 1: After reading the first book in the Bride Hunt series, I was eagerly awaiting this one. Well, I was disappointed. Unlike the first book, At the Bride Hunt Ball, the plot of this book is all over the place. The heroine, Charlotte, is a wallflower who was jilted by the Duke's brother. Adam Faramond, Earl of Rothbury, has loved Charlotte for years and comes to her rescue, asking her to dance. Soon the two becomes friends. Charlotte believes Adam is in love with someone else, and offers to help him reform his wicked ways. Adam plays along until his senile Grandmother decides he needs to marry quickly or lose his inheritance. So, he asks Charlotte to meet his french grandmother. The next thing they know, they're in the middle of a fake marriage ceremony which later turns out to... more be real.Even though this is an easy read, I really did not enjoy it. The plot wonders around in circles and then goes off in weird directions. My rating: 2 Stars.
review 2: I really really liked this book, HOWEVER, the description on the back is SUPER INACCURATE! I was like, "Uhhhhh.... that's SO not what happened!"This is how the story REALLY goes:A few years ago, Miss Charlotte Greene and her mother were in a carriage accident and this guy, Lord Tristan Devine, comes to their rescue. So Charlotte fancies herself in love with him. The problem is that as Charlotte starts mooning over him at balls, etc., Tristan's best friend, Adam Faramond, Earl of Rothbury, falls in love with HER.When Tristan chooses another girl to marry, sorta snubbing Charlotte, she decides she wants to get a little revenge. So she begins a friendship with Rothbury (who I really wanted to call Adam the whole book, but apparently only his grandmother calls him that... not even Charlotte!), with the idea that he'll help her make Tristan jealous, though she claims she doesn't want him back (Adam doesn't believe her), and she'll help him win Lady Rosalind Devine's heart (Tristan's sister). Except that he doesn't even want Rosalind... he just wants Charlotte... but he doesn't think he's good enough for her because he's such a rake and reprobate. And it goes on from there, him trying to hide his feelings from her, since he thinks she's still in "love" (it was infatuation) with his best friend, and she's trying not to develop feelings for him, since there's no way he'd ever fall for little-ole-wallflower-Charlotte when he could have any woman he wanted. My favorite part was the lie she told her mother about Adam to get her to CALM DOWN and let Charlotte spend time with him. Heehee... I totally called it before she "explained." You'd have to be pretty dense NOT to, so I don't know why I'm bragging about that except that I'm TERRIBLE at figuring mysteries out in books... Ha!Anyway, it was super cute, just don't expect it to follow the back of the book. That "marriage of convenience" stuff..... not REALLY. And "plan a sham ceremony"? Can 30 seconds of conversation really be termed "planning"? Also, I think it should be illegal to put anything in the description on the back cover that doesn't happen in the first 50% of a book. That was a good 75% of the way in. And that "unexpected turn" is in like the second-to-last chapter! SHOULD BE ILLEGAL! less
