review 1: His To Command by Opal Carew was originally released as six serial erotic romance novellas and is now available as one single novel. Kate is a business woman who had to leave New York City and start a new life in Connecticut, it was not something she wanted to do but she had to get away from her past, especially Matt Pearce. Matt is her ex, the one who dominated her and showed her that she had a submissive side she wasn't aware existed. She was just beginning to explore this side of herself when something happened between her and Matt and she felt she had to run away, leaving everything she knew behind. She has settled into her new life when a chance encounter brings Matt back into her life and the walls she built begin to crumble around her. She can't control herself arou... morend him and he wants to control her, will she let him? This is the first book I have read by Opal Carew and I can honestly say I loved it and will read anything she writes from now on. I enjoyed her writing style, she does write in the third person but still allows each characters point of view to come through at certain points allowing the reader a better grasp of the characters thoughts and actions. She has an amazing way of keeping the reader intrigued from the very first scene. From the first moments of the book the reader is kept on the edge of their seat, who did she see? Was it really him, why is she so afraid? Later on in the novel the reader will be wondering, What happened at the party? What did Matt do to her? What is the secret? The entire novel had a slight air of suspense keeping the reader hooked. Matt and Kate are both great, interesting and well developed characters. The reader comes into the story two years after their original break up but the author does a good job of revealing the important details which allows the reader to understand what happened between them. The story does have a BDSM theme and I think it was incredibly well done. Kate who was a strong female character was terrified of her submission and how it made her feel and act. She didn't want to be perceived as weak or have her entire life controlled which are very real fears that female submissives may have. Matt reveals a fear that he pushed too far and too fast into the lifestyle which is also a common issue in this type of relationship. The sex scenes are scorching hot and well written, they are sexual and not smutty. Beyond the sex this novel is also the story of two people who love each other deeply but some terrible things happened and drove them apart. There are some shocking reveals, in particular the incident that broke them up, which is revealed partway through the book and the reader will be shocked, angry and sad. Matt is also keeping a terrible secret that has the potential to destroy their relationship for a second time. The author has an unparalleled ability to describe the emotional scenes in the story making the reader feel everything that the characters feel. There does end up being a happily ever after and I have to say that the last scene before the epilogue is by far one of my favorite scenes in a book ever, it was surprising, sexy and powerful, I've already re-read it twice! I also felt the epilogue was an absolutely brilliant and perfect ending to the story of Matt and Kate. I can't wait to read more by Opal Carew.
review 2: There are six parts to this series of eBooks. I have completed Part 1: THE CHASE featuring billionaire Matt Pearce and business consultant Kate Hayward.Part one sets up the story of how Kate and Matt met and some information on why she left him. While pursuing her career in a new location she spots him at a local mall one Saturday. Coincidence, maybe but when she sees him again she knows he's been looking for her. The issue is Kate had problems accepting the dominant role in their former relationship and is secretive on what happened to send her running.Meanwhile, Matt has devised a way to bring her back into his life and readers won't find out the how and whys until Part 2: The Capture. So far, this story is being told very well and with enough mystery to frustrate the reader. I'm having fun with this series. It's clear that Kate still loves Matt and has believable concerns. I can't wait to continue these stories. less
