review 1: This was a delightful book. The best out of the three Perfect Kisses series in my opinion.Charlie was introduced in the first book (Playing at Love) as Tess’ brother and in the second (Speaking of Love) his character was more presented as the typical bachelor who doesn’t want to settle down but has really good love advice. In Falling for her Soldier we see yet another whole new side of Charlie. Yes, he’s charming, has a twinkle in his eyes, a killer panty dropping smile and a strong personality. But we also get to see he’s confident about his work, that he loves and is proud to be a soldier. Is his calling. If he is commited to something is to the army. So it’s really no surprise he hasn’t been interested in a woman for more than one night, because he is just no... moret that interested to get to know somebody in a more deeper level. It all changes when a mission goes terribly wrong and his best friend, Sam, almost dies. Charlie reachs out through e-mail to Sam’s family, his sister Ellie, knowing that the inner works of military won’t be permited to share much about his friend condition. They both keep in touch through Sam’s recovery forming a bond beyond their share concern over their loved one. But Charlie decides to stop writing to Ellie because he feels is not right to go further without Sam’s permission. So, next time Charlie is deployed he goes to visit Sam at a rec center. In true comedy of errors fashion, he is introduced as Ellie there as Hunter, his nickname due to his ladies man about town tendencies.Ellie has been burn before. Badly. And after a string of losers boyfriends she made the promise to not date anynody for a year. Only 24 days to go but things change when she meets Hunter, her brother’s friend. He is everything she is been trying to stay away from but the more she gets to know him, the more she realizes he is no longer the ladies man with terrible reputation.Charlie has to show Ellie (and Sam) he truly is a changed man. And I particulary liked that Ellie gets to know him as Hunter, for he has the chance to rebuild his character and prove not only to others but himself that he is serious about the new way he wants to relate with the important people of his life.If Ellie knew him from the beginning as Charlie, she would have nothing but starry eyes for him. By been introduced to Hunter, she got to see his flaws, accept them as part of what made him but Ellie got the chance to see him grow out of them too. Elli proved to be a very fun and sassy leading lady. Always keeping him on his toes, perfect woman for Charlie. There was a lot of character growth and I really appreciate it, especially because it was angst free. Yes, there was a little drama but at that point you knew everything would work out at the end.Excellent romance, highly recommended!
review 2: I've really enjoyed the books I've come across from Entangled's sweet, tender romance imprint, and this one was no exception.I loved that Ellie was taking ownership of herself, and trying to make sure she doesn’t repeat her previous mistakes with men. Even if Jane doesn’t understand your man-free year, I get you, Ellie.Charlie, I just wanted to hug him sometimes. Charlie knows his reputation isn’t exactly lily-white. His actions in helping Ellie were very sweet and no matter how hard it was for him, I loved that he wanted Ellie to know him rather than his reputation - even if his methods were a little skewed. This is a sweet and tender read. While it is light on the “action”, that certainly didn’t take away from the development of their relationship and the chemistry between Ellie and Charlie. The dance scenes between them certainly added a zing to their connection – sexy without being gratuitous. The way in which Charlie’s secret was revealed was unexpected, and the resolution of the dark moment was just gorgeous! Someone else compared it to the final scene in An Officer and a Gentleman, and I would definitely agree with that observation.I very much enjoyed the secondary characters in Falling for Her Soldier, especially Jane and Sam (Ellie’s brother). I am really hoping that each of those two has a story somewhere in the future. While I haven’t read the earlier books in the series, I most definitely do after this. less
