review 1: I would never recommend this for teens EVER. Too didactic and somewhere along the lines of Lord of the Flies meets the Hunger Games but somehow darker and incredibly morbid. The title is misleading and may lead a female reader to believe this is a story about a female heroine. Yay! A girl who owns a city? Sounds wonderful! Wrong! Lisa is narcissistic and self centered...a detestable "heroine" if that is what you would like to call her.
review 2: When all the people in the world over 12 turn to dust it leaves the children to fend for themselves. Some turn to violence, some can't take care of themselves and just fade away and others want to make a new life for themselves and others around them. Enter 10 year old Lisa, a smart and forward thinking leader looking ... morefor someplace safe for her and her brother. While Lisa goes on trips to find food and other supplies her brother is attacked and everything is stolen. Well Lisa is not going to put up with this so she goes around the neighborhood and organizes a militia while fortifying their houses. Unfortunately while the group is away the gangs burn their houses down and they are left with nothing again. Lisa thinks and thinks and finds an abandoned school which is perfect. For weeks the group works in silent, making the building safe and setting down rules for the new city...
