review 1: Highly recommend this light read to all mothers new, young and old. Love how it was written, so informal and chick-lit-ish and yet so very eye opening, witty and with enough humour to keep you from putting the book down.I love this book and I do believe "the pause" truly works and parents shouldn't be so troubled about practicing this in public. This book is about the Author's experiences as an expatriate living in Paris and she outlines the distinction between the Americans and French parenting styles. To me, the French and the Asians are so similar in nature, instinct and conduct. So very enlightening.I have learn to appreciate and value our Asian culture and traditions more and thus see it in a better light upon reading this book. (I shall no longer belittle our ancient ... moreAsian approach to parenting
review 2: The truth is I picked this book off the shelf in error. I was confusing it with another book I wanted to read, I thought they were the same author - not sure how I could have gotten it so wrong, the only thing in common in the two books is the word 'French' in the title. Regardless, this book was entertaining and enlightening for a non-parent such as myself. After the first few chapters I thought why I am reading this but continued because Pamela was truthful and humorous in her dialogue. She was impartial in describing the differences between the French and Anglophones methods of parenting. Unfortunately, I won't be recommending it to any of my non-parent friends because I think their initial reaction might be like mine 'why I am reading this' and my parent friends, well, I am not sure they would be able to read it objectively. If I come across any parents-to-be I would recommend it as the French method clicked with me but who would listen to me - I am not a parent. less
