review 1: After a brutal murder in her hometown leads Pat Brown to suspect her boarder, she becomes immersed in criminal profiling.There was a lot of potential in this book, but ultimately it fell flat for me. None of the cases have closure, which makes it difficult to feel any authority from her. The cases themselves are described a bit haphazardly, with pieces strewn in. There are also some offhanded remarks or assumptions that I didn't like in a few places.
review 2: This is a memoir, so I don't want to be too mean. It may be that Pat Brown is a very talented profiler. But, by focusing on her life as a homemaker, her lack of formal training, and cases where her profiling did nothing to lead to an arrest or aid in any way in solving the cases (something she blames on i
... morencompetent detectives or the broken system), she comes off as a total nut job. It held my attention like a low budget reality show. I wanted to quit reading it many times. I only kept reading out of some inexplicable need to finish books I start and some strange joy I got out of hating it so much. less
