review 1: I enjoyed reading this novel. The beginning of the novel was definitely interesting with the cast of characters in the boarding house, but it kind of dragged on a bit near the end. However, it didn't detract from my enjoyment of it. You had the feeling early on that that the relationship between Lita and Cato would not survive her stay in Paris, but it still was sad when they finally parted never to see each other again. It wasn't the best book I've read this year so far, but it definitely wasn't the worst.
review 2: This is a wonderful book. It's got a great setting (Paris), the characters are interesting, the language is beautiful, and it has a heartbreaking ending - but not the one you will expect. There are slow spots but I recommend powering through them
... more because this is a girl you want to know. I finished the book ten days ago and I'm still puzzling about the ending - so to me that's a treasure. I love a book with that "stick to your ribs" feeling. I didn't rate it a 5 because I don't think I'll read it again and that's sort of my delimiter for a 5. less
