review 1: This is the 2nd book in The Staff & The Sword series. A great Christian Fantasy novel. Errol Stone's adventure continues. He continues to endure hardships because of the evil in Illustra and the world. He is sent on a mission to kill an evil "reader" whose mind is taken over by a malus (demon) as punishment for a crime he didn't commit. Princess Adora is being forced to marry a man that is evil, so she escapes and joins his group. She declares her love for him, but he doesn't feel worthy. This book like the first book, fast paced and keeps the reader entertained from start to finish. Looking forward to starting the 3rd book in this series.
review 2: This is a simply stunning book. From the first pages the pace is fast and rivoting, keeping an excellent b... morealanced to be neither rushed nor slowed to boring. As a work of fantasy the world- building is sublime, and the characters so real and believable. As a work of Christian allegory there is powerful truth here which so e best theology teachers would struggle to communicate. I was left thankful for the gift of an excellent story- teller, equal in my mind to Cs Lewis, as as an unquenchable gratitude to God for my access to the Bible. Just to imagine that there would be only one single copy of the Book who h holds the Truth, for the hunger who h drives men to have just an hour to read its pages and know God more, struck my heart at the times I have taken for granted the Words of Life which sit in my lounge. It is powerful fiction which can reveal truth.Praise God for Patrick Carr. I am longing for the next instalment. less
