review 1: This is my first review (this is also the fifth time I've typed the opening sentence) and I want to do it justice. Let me first set the scene as to how I came to discover this series. I had just been given an iPad, and was merrily downloading all these apps I NEEDED, and the first being the Kobo app. I then proceeded to browse the FREE books. Now, I consider myself an avid reader, and a goal of mine is to get through 'all classics.' That being said, my character has a flaw (one of many) in that I also tend to read "fluff." I am particularly partial to Christian "fluff" - now there is nothing wrong with these books, they are well written and have usually have fairly decent/semi-believable plots - the plots are just usually the same - and usually end with "happily ever after... more." It was in my perusal of such fluff that I glanced over a cover(it must be said that the cover was there do to the fact that it fell within the 'free' category and was not said fluff)that caught my attention. Yes, I said the cover caught my attention - that was it - I didn't even read the back cover, I just started reading...AND I WAS HOOKED! I loved everything about it, the setting, the characters, the back story, - everything! I felt connected to it in some way. I literally had to pull myself back to reality. This world had me enthralled, and the second - yes, THE SECOND I finished the first one, I purchased the second, and it did not disappoint! The only disappointment I suffered at the hands of Mr Patrick W. Carr was that once I had finished the second book, I had to wait five months until the release of the third book. And let me tell you, it was an agonising wait! I would catch myself day-dreaming about where the story would take me, and how it would end. Now I realise that I haven't 'critiqued' the book so to say, I could tell you that the characters are beautifully realistic, the fantasy is believable, and that the symbolism is exquisite. I could tell you that you will be torn about how it should end and that you will feel completely immersed in this world. But I would rather you just read it, without knowing anything, and then experience the wonder as it unfolds page by page. In short, this is one of my favourite trilogies, and I am in the process of saving in order to buy the hard copies too, just so that I can share the wonder (and also so that I can have someone to talk about it to!)
review 2: OMG, wow, this book was captivating, and I stayed up to finish it late into the night. You will find yourself falling in love with the characters and the courage to stand up for each other and form lasting bonds of friendship. When you read it, you'll be able to see the story play out. Errol is one of the most heroic characters I've met in a long time. Especially when you consider what his like when you first meet him. He completely captures your sympathy and you feel completely captivated by his journey. I can't wait to read the next book which I will be pufchasing right after posting this. As you can tell when I find a book that I really enjoy the characters become like new friends that I know and love.Errol,Martin,Liam and all the rest have become that for me. Well done and thank you. less
