review 1: This was an OK book. Much like the first book in this series by Paul Kemp, the two friends are trying, once more, to avoid adventure and just run their bar/brothel, The Slick Tunnel, when they are dragged into two separate, but related, adventures helping friends. Unlike the first book, which started off with a lot of action and did not let up, this one was a bit slower to develop and really did not pick up steam until the second half of the book. There is not much in the way of character development, and, with very few exceptions, a lot of the characters seem to have the same voice. I liked the first book in the series a bit better than this one (which I also rated 3 stars). Will probably pick up the next book in the series when I need a quick, fast ... moreread.
review 2: I'm in love with Egil and NIx! the witty banter is some of the best I have ever read. I love the dance and games the characters "play." The supporting cast is amazing. I love the world Kemp has created. I love the language and diction. I LOVE the key (never thought a key could be a character but there it is!)The only downside for me was the end. Both because it was over and because I guess I was expecting more or something else. I'm not sure what it is I feel I'm missing but maybe I just wish it kept going lol I am already dying for the next one less
