review 1: Is there a category called Manly Fantasy? That's what I would put this into. Not a whole lot of intrigue, or world-ending evil. It's sort of just two guys from the bar that get into shenanigans because they have a certain skill set. I ended up not being really too keen on any one part of this book, but because overall it had a good flow and didn't get bogged down in pointless boring bits, it wasn't too bad a read.
review 2: A fan of the author from his Forgotten Realms and Star Wars novels I made this my first download on my new Kindle after Christmas. Exactly as advertised this is a "ripping good yarn" of the sword and sorcery variety. Egil and Nix are a great pair of characters, tomb raiders who are tired of the life and ready to move on to retirement and
... more buying their favorite tavern. Egil is the only living priest of a minor god dedicated to living in each moment while Nix is a rogue who knows just enough magic to get them into trouble and occasionally get them out of it. The main villain is completely despicable and meets a very poetic fate in the end following a series of events that is bloody entertaining from start to finish. Although I would have enjoyed getting into Egil's head at some point in the story keeping the perspective limited to Nix and the various side characters worked well for the story. Looking forward to the next story A Discourse in Steel and hopefully many more to come. less

nice easy fantasy read, nothing spectacular, just good and fun

a fun fantasy romp with a surprisingly feminist plot twist.
