review 1: Ehhh. Not my favorite Forgotten Realms book ever. Seems like it started really slowly and then whacked us in the head with a hurried denouement. Also, seriously, the names of almost all the characters are very similar to each other. There's a Riven and a Rivalen and a Vasen and a Cale and . . . several other examples. Made for confusing reading, especially as some characters (like the said Riven and Cale himself) made brief appearances at the beginning and then disappeared until the final few pages. Maybe we were supposed to read some previous books in this character arc. Whatever the reason, it was just hard to come at it cold and try to figure out why half the characters seemed to be recycling names.
review 2: I finally finished this! To start off, if you do
... more not know who Eravis Cale is do not read this to you do. All but 2 of the characters in this book have something to do with Cale. This book to me was a a slow read. Kemp is a great writer, if you have read the spider queen series then you know where I am coming from. But this one...um..lets just say it bored me til the last few chapters with the fighting. Half this book is showing you the daily life of the heroes and baddies and who they hate/or love. THen a a little Lord of the Rings traveling action, then wham a fight and its over. The Godborn is part two of the sundering series. How it ties in with the first part The Companions..you got me..Maybe one day i'll re-read this after reading the ERavis Cale trilogy first and might know what I am seeing..other wise if you must read the whole Sundering series, just skim through this one. less
