review 1: There are so many beautiful pasages in this book, and the story is an intriguing border crossing tale including Japanese, Korean and Brazilian main characters. The main character, despite the passage of time (years) changes little, and remains, in the author's hands, a passive bystander to his own life. The structure of the novel seemed awkward and unpolished in sections. I look forward to more work by Paul Yoon.
review 2: Author Paul Yoon has such a gentle, beautiful prose that really flowed from one page to the next. The shortfall, for me, was in the actual story itself. The narrative seemed to jump around a bit and nothing was ever really resolved which I don't particularly like as far as a novella goes. It was more like small vignettes into Yohan's life, sh
