review 1: As Fani herself would say, CINCO ESTRELINHAS! And seriously, I think it deserves much more.I was twelve, I think, when some classmates of mine started to read these series and I got very interested but I wasn't a book addict as I am now. One of my best friends had read them all, so I went to talk to her and she said I'd love it (mostly, because of the love story), I also heard a bunch of stuff (like break-ups... *nervous face*), so then, after a lot of comments, I went to check this book myself. I was at a bookstore and READ LIKE ELEVEN CHAPTERS in one afternoon! So I finally bought it and read from a day to another. The writing style: it's enchanting and so funny! It really feels like a talk or like you're inside Fani's mind. I love to write too, so when I read this, I fin... moreally found myself indentifying with that style.Characters: Fani has something no character has ever had before. I actually saw myself discribed in some points. She's oficially one of my favorite protagonists ever. Her friends are amazing, that whole thing to get her and Leo together was surely something I'd love to do. And her boy's soo cuute! A teen boy talking about spending the rest of his life with one girl surely has my Shipper support. The love story: I'm a compulsive romantic, I ship even the couple from the table beside me on the mall's food court, and because of my stories, I have a special care for stories involving best friends who aren't supposed to be just friends. But it's not common to me to go "if they don't have a happy ending cuter than a lot of filmes de amorzinho around, my family better call me 911" on the first twenty pages... I think, right after that party at Gabi's place.Setting: It's in BRAZIL! My country, and believe me, you don't get me saying that all the time. I just loved this book also for making me proud of being Brazilian. And unlike most love stories I read or watch, I don't have any idea of how it's gonna end, just know it's gonna be happily.
review 2: The first time that Paula Pimenta came to my attention was a visit to Livraria Cultura. Dozens--maybe hundreds?--of middle school aged girls were dressed in their best and clutching the newest of Paula's books ready to be signed by the author herself. There was actual shrieking going on. Yep, they were loving her THAT much. Read elsewhere that Paula Pimenta is the Brazilian Meg Cabot--an apt description. Kinda loved this book, especially that it WAS Brazilian with colégios and churrascos and outings to the Shopping. A little too much paixão for me but I imagine that's what the kids want and I'd probably say the same for Cabot's books at times too. (Can't a book be about NOT love?) Finally I just need someone to address the fact that the main character's name is Fani/Fanny and she's moving to Brighton for a year... Please don't let Paula Pimenta have overlooked that because English schoolkids certainly wouldn't have. Teehee. less
