review 1: This book was very slow and kind of boring. I didn't think we would ever find out who killed Stacey, that was only in the last few pages. It left a lot of questions...did Jerry kill her simply because he was a sociopath, did he want Johnny to go to jail so he could replace him in the family or did he think he was protecting Johnny from Stacey's pregnancy? Did John know? Why would Johnny even tell Jerry about the pregnancy? They weren't friends. The scene where Stacey's Dad and other townspeople come to the family's house was so not of the times, it was more reminiscent of something that would happen in the 40s/50s, not 1995. Would probably stay away from other books from this author, just not my cup of tea. I am being generous with 3 stars.

... moreis book was a real page turner for me. I love that it takes place in Wisconsin and tells a crime story from the perspective of a 9 year old girl, Kristen, about her own brother and his girlfriend. The psychological aspect of how much she pushed for the two of them to be together and her suspicions regarding their relationship added a tremendous amount of emotional depth to this story. The resolution comes quickly as the entire book is the story of Stacy's relationship with Kristen's brother and her disappearance, then suddenly the ending is there. I'm not sure how realistic the revelation of the outcome is, but the story itself was a good look at how a crime destroys a family. less
