review 1: How I Picked This Book- A teacher back in 6th grade had recommended the series to me because I had needed something new to read and I've loved it ever since.Setting- The story mainly takes place in the 1830's in St. Louis at the Tower Grove House of Night. Characterization- The two main characters are Bryan "Dragon" Lankford and Anastasia. Dragon is someone who thinks that he can get away with anything and everything. He's an expert when it comes to fighting with swords, and eventually becomes the swords master and fencing instructor at the House of Night. Though he's good at it, he doesn't like violence. He prefers, if possible, to solve things peacefully. But that doesn't mean he won't fight. In fact, though he says he doesn't like it, he always jumps right into a fight.... moreAnastasia is a young professor at the House of Night. She teaches the Spells and Rituals class, and has an affinity for these spells and rituals, making her the perfect choice for a teacher for that class. Anastasia is a both excited and sick to her stomach about teaching. She's the youngest teacher at that House of Night, and it makes her stand out. But this also makes her excited to teach. She's a very caring person and is also a peaceful person. She was raised as a Quaker, and even though she technically isn't one anymore, she still follows the path of being a Quaker.Out of the two, Dragon's the most dynamic character. As said, at first he thinks he's someone who can get away with whatever it is that he does, but over time he matures and learns to stay out of trouble.Theme- The theme for Dragon's Oath, and the theme throughout the series is the constant battle between Good and Evil/Light and Dark, and that if the balance between the two is unequal, whether it's Light or Dark, nothing truly good will come of it.What I Thought of This Book- I personally loved this one and thought that the relationship between Dragon and Anastasia was both adorable and depressing.
review 2: I really liked having a chance to look through Dragon Lankford's story. Reading through the House of Night series, I really didn't give him much attention, I just recently realized. After reading alot from the series, I felt a bit overboard with it and needed a break. It's been a long while now since I've read anything related to the books. Reading the first novella, I'm really glad I gave it a shot. This suited my taste. I don't know what I still feel reading through the whole series, but this novella's story gave me back the interest I had while reading the first few books of the House of Night. I will hopefully get back to it soon. less
