review 1: Why haven't more people read this??? I first read this a few years ago... and I didn't get it. But reading it now. I LOVED IT! Is it necessarily for everyone... no. (I'm talking to you mom!) Those who need a happy ending, or nothing bad or heartbreaking to happen. Don't read this book. But for the rest of us.....READ IT READ IT READ IT! O my gosh I LOVED this book! It's like mind-blowingly complex and I'm actually not guessing everything ahead of time. It's VERY original. And I mean VERY! You know how all of these newest sci-fi/dystopians are all pretty much the same? Teen girl is forced to make hard decisions to survive and protect those she loves only to lose most of them and have to battle powerful political figures and the elements? NOPE! Completely different. And it wa... mores awesome! What I really loved was that I was so into it and I read it really fast because I was either engrossed in horror or was trying to figure out what was really going on! And it kept me totally engrossed! And another thing: Can we take a moment to give a hand to the amazing author who has created one of the best male lead characters I have ever had the pleasure of reading!?I've read a lot of books, ok? And most of them are female leads. And generally I prefer it that way. Because when a book is written from a male perspective, I usually feel like there's no emotion, and details are lacking. It's all technical information. But in this book.... with Stopmouth.... AMAZING! He wasn't girly or overly emotional, but you knew how he felt about things! There was great detail in most everything, but you didn't feel hampered by it. His character is AMAZING, and yes, I know I keep saying amazing.... but I can't help it.READ THIS BOOK PEOPLE. READ IT. review 2: I really enjoyed this book. I bought it on a whim, not knowing anything about it, except reading the blurb which piqued my interest.Oh Stopmouth... I really developed a fondness for him and of course with all the turn of events, who could not feel sorry for him at some stage. His brother turned out to be downright nasty piece of work. I only wish we'd seen gobbled up by one of the strange beings they encountered in the most gruesome way possible. (Sorry I do get a little vengeful on characters, but that might have been too good for him anyhow.)Some of it is a little bit of a challenge, possibly squeamish at some points. The only thing stopping me from giving it four stars for the ride is the second book as a jump from primitive to advanced. I'm sure I'd enjoy it but right for some reason I just haven't been able to make that transition. less
