review 1: Never underestimate Peg Kehret. Even though she is a prolific author who averages at least a book a year, she writes great books that can be appreciated by both adults and children. In this one twelve-year-old Rusty and his best friend Andrew decide to rescue a dog who they believe is being abused (without the aid of any adults). Throw in a class troublemaker, pesky kid sister and a couple ruthless baddies for another high interest thriller/mystery by Peg Kehret.
