review 1: Never underestimate Peg Kehret. Even though she is a prolific author who averages at least a book a year, she writes great books that can be appreciated by both adults and children. In this one twelve-year-old Rusty and his best friend Andrew decide to rescue a dog who they believe is being abused (without the aid of any adults). Throw in a class troublemaker, pesky kid sister and a couple ruthless baddies for another high interest thriller/mystery by Peg Kehret.
review 2: I'm surprised I disliked this book as much as I did. Maybe I've just read so many pet books recently that my tolerance has dropped. That being said, the black-and-white preachiness of the story (combined with colorless writing style and a decided lack of characterization) put me off in a m... moreajor way. I felt less like I was reading a book than watching an SPCA Public Awareness short. Not recommended. less
