review 1: I must want to go to Brooklyn, New York since the past two books I have read have been about that area. I love the images that the author cooks with his works and the real pain that the characters go through. This is a collection of short stories and they don't end happily, since this is more about real life than anything else. I don't know why but I love stories about cities long in the past and this collection is first rate!
review 2: I'm not normally a big fan of short stories but I did enjoy this collection. They are not all about Christmas but that was clear when I read the description of the book. I'm not sure why anyone would have thought they were all about Christmas. Some of the stories were pretty difficult, about unhappy harsh times in peoples live
... mores. But that's what made them seem real. You get a sense if the authors childhood and the Brooklyn he grew up in. Reading these stories has made me want to seek out more by this author. less
