review 1: Definitely a book worth reading if you want a to know of a handful of technologies that exist today and how they may change the world as fast as computing has in the last 20 years. Key points that I found fascinating: why we are often bind to subtle changes and opportunity; (at least) six specific examples technologies that are growing exponentially right now; and a reassuring vision of how the workforce will adapt after we're all replaced by robots. Yes, some of his descriptions of the future are optimistic - borderline cornucopian - but it is refreshing to read about a possible positive future in contrast to the daily grind of bad news. After finishing this book, I'm heading out to buy my elementary-school aged daughter a DNA sequencer and a 3D pri... morenter.
review 2: I guess I'm one of the pessimistic type of people. If you want a feel good book ,this might be it . I agree that all these Polly Anna theories could be possible . However as we read in the first chapter re the aluminum story . The king beheaded the man who brought him Aluminum, in order to protect his wealth. We only have to look at the drug industry to see that the drug companies are in the business of treating medical problems not curing them. I hope that I am wrong and that this beautiful planet will survive. less
