review 1: as the publisher says, this book is "achingly beautiful'. The painter lives in his head, and describes it so vividly that we can live there too .... while he creates, while he mourns, while he fly fishes.... He lives with beauty, creativity and sorrow. Though fiction, the protagonist reminds me of Cheryl Strayed in "Wild". Nature and Paining tether him and give his life purpose. When he is not doing either he is a lost soul. The book is very well written, captivates from the beginning more so because of the pace and language than the engaging plot. I loved this book!

... moreose and I don't know if that is why I rated this book 3 stars instead of 4. It was a really good book but although I liked reading it, I can't say I enjoyed it because it was so heavy. There was a lot of meaning and it made me think but I can't say I would recommend it to others. less
