review 1: So the nice French billionaire is enjoying his summer in his fabulous seaside mansion. Then a nasty Russian oligarch becomes obsessed with acquiring the mansion, which the nice billionaire doesn't want to sell. So the oligarch decides to have the billionaire killed. Of course. Then the billionaire and his American detective friend, the detective's sexy girlfriend and a couple of Corsican rascals foil the plot. It's all extremely silly - lighter than a soufflé. But the menus and the travelogue are fun.
review 2: I love just about anything by Peter Mayle - his books are always a quick but satisfying read. This one, however, felt a little "phoned in". It was a bit predictable and a bit, well, meh. It's as if he took bits from stuff he's already done and str
