review 1: It seems I'm being over critical with my latest reads, but this book failed to grip me and keep me even remotely interested in the story, which is very simple. There's no "suspense" at all. The story concerns a straight forward theft of wine. The reader doesn't know anything about the protagonist, except he was, in his past, a crook. He's hired to find the missing wine, flies to France, finds the wine, and that's about it. Very little action.
review 2: I must have lived in France in a previous life as I have to say that I really enjoyed the setting of the different places in France, the food and most of all, the wine! The author lives there and knows of what he speaks, and it shows. Not much imagination is needed to transport me to that mellow countryside w
... moreith its vineyards, local population and small cafes along the way. What better place to set this fun mystery? I found the process the protagonists took to be interesting, methodical and a bit on the tense side. Along the way I got to learn a little bit about different wines and their vintages (plus prices). And though the mystery was solved in a satisfactory way, I didn't think the 'bad' guys were nasty at all. No violence was used and to those exclusive rich, just another game to be played.Loved it! When does my plane leave?? less

Good beach read. Classic Mayle - predictable ending but filled with luscious food and drink.

An enjoyable light read. Pleasant, free of smut, and an easy escape to France. :)
